Peterson's Summer Jobs USA: Where the Jobs Are & How to Get Them (Peterson's Summer Jobs Usa, 2000)
Published in Paperback by Petersons Guides (November, 1999)
Author: Peterson's
Average review score:

The Book I studied hardest at College
This book is a phenomenal source of information on employment for the aspiring college student. Not only does it list a plethora of seasonal summer jobs in each of the fifty states, but it also lists some employment opportunities overseas and in Canada. There is a section devoted to employment in the National Park Services which I found especially useful. It lists all the national parks nationwide and the criterion for the different types of jobs. From amusement parks to summer camps, this book lists literally hundreds of summer opportunities for the "vacationing" student. A typical explanation lists the dates of the job, requirements, application information, and detailed account of what one will be doing. A breakdown of the typical employee (ex. female 40% male 60% or 10% college students 60% retirees) was especially useful. It helped me find the ideal summer job and provided a huge pool to chose from. Overall, the best, most informative, and extensive book on the subject that I have ever seen or read.

Good for General Opportunities
If you're looking for a big, generalized guide for viewing an assortment of summer opportunities for your child, this is the best guide available. However, I found "Early College Programs" to be a far superior guide for reviewing summer opportunities for my college-bound teen.

Physique Quantique Mesoscopique = Mesoscopic Quantum Physics (Les Houches Summer School. Proceedings, Vol 61)
Published in Hardcover by North-Holland (01 February, 1996)
Authors: E. Akkermans, G. Montambaux, J.-L. Pichard, and J. Zinn-Justin
Average review score:

The most complete reference in the subject
As a physician working in the mesoscopic area this is one of the best available books ever. Despite its becoming sometimes old for obvious scientific progress reasons, the information gathered in this book is very hard to obtain by single papers or review collecting. It is even presented in a pedagogical fashion! Of course, that doesn't mean the text is introductory level, I would say it is in the mid to high range. In any case, it serves the purposes of teaching mesoscopic physics to any new scientist in the subject, an also as a good reference book for the old ones. The price however seems to be too, too high. Before investing I would first look at it in a library if available, and then decide if it is a must be in my shelves!

The Pirates of Sufiro

Author: David L. Summers
Average review score:

The Pirates of Sufiro is a wonderful novel!
Pirates is simply one of the best novels I've read. The characters are engaging and believable. The plot is both fast moving and rich. While set in the future, it reflects life as it is today.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!
I can't believe no one has wrote a review for this book. I thought it was one of Carolyn Keene's best books. The romance between her and Sasha Petrov was so strong that I couldn't put it down. It kept me on edge wondering if Nancy would choose Ned or Sasha. The only way for you to find out is to read to read it! R.B.

Prairie Boy's Summer
Published in Hardcover by Tundra Books (December, 1975)
Author: William Kurelek
Average review score:

PICTORIAL VIGNETTES OF THE CANADIAN PRAIRIE
It only takes 30 minutes to read this charming book of 20 pictures, with text on the opposite page, but do yourself a favor and savor it longer. Don't expect any plot, theme or character development, yet this gem charms by its honest simplicity, as it celebrates a by-gone era of farming on the Canadian prairie.

The famous Canadian author/illustrator has captured the flavor of carefree, rural childhood in the 1930's and preserved it for future generations to discover and enjoy. Kurelek treats each topic with quiet dignity: chores, games, weather, special occasions, and adult life as viewed by irrepressible children. Both text and illustrations are rich in detail. This volume is a companion to his "A PRAIRIE BOY'S WINTER," one of the New York Times' Best Illustrated books of 1973. A relaxing read for those who want to escape the hurried 90's and nestle into a time of agrarian innocence.
